As the former director of the California Department of Toxic Substances Control, Law 360 asked Maureen Gorsen to share her insight in an article discussing tips for navigating brownfield redevelopment issues.
When considering a potential brownfield redevelopment site, Gorsen recommended taking a closer look at contamination and acceptable remediation methods.
“[Developers] need to understand the extent of the contamination and what they might be looking at,” she said. “Not knowing the extent, how much to clean up, keeps a lot of buyers away so it can be very profitable for people who can understand what they’re looking at and accurately predict cost.”
