Alan Behr

Alan Behr, a partner in the New York office, is a member of the firm’s IP and Technology Transactions and Trademarks Groups and the head of the firm’s Electronic Entertainment Group and its Fashion & Luxury Goods Practice. He concentrates his practice on international intellectual property and entertainment law. Mr. Behr counsels many of the world’s leaders in the fields of electronic entertainment, print publishing, fashion and consumer products. He is regularly invited to write for legal and general-interest journals and to speak at international legal and business conferences.

Prior to joining Alston & Bird, Mr. Behr was general counsel of w-Technologies, Inc. and before that he was chief legal officer of Atari, Inc. (formerly GT Interactive Software Corp.).

Mr. Behr received his J.D. degree from the Columbia University School of Law in 1979. He received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1976.

He is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and the Copyright Society of the United States.

Representative Experience

  • Guided a major electronics company through its Western Hemisphere launch of its new hand-held wireless entertainment platform.
  • Concluded licenses for hundreds of games for the launch and operation of a premier legacy games broadband network.
  • Represented a major fashion label on the development of its worldwide licensing program.
  • Ongoing anti-counterfeiting, trademark enforcement and other IP protection activities for leading European and American luxury brands.
  • Assisted one of Asia’s largest handset manufacturers and wireless services carriers in the acquisition of content and the development of games for its groundbreaking mobile distribution and play network.
  • Provided full legal services in the development of massively multiplayer online games for, respectively, a major United States television network and a European-based entertainment group.
  • Counseled a New York-based developer and publisher in the worldwide launch of its high-profile gaming network.
  • Representing an independent film company in the acquisition and distribution of award-winning independent productions.
  • Representing print publishers, authors and literary agents in the development and publication of books and journals, in the protection of them against infringement. Noteworthy: guiding a world leader in scientific, technical and medical journals in the acquisition of a large portfolio of important journals in translation; the licensing of a major brand for a travel novels, book-series relaunch; the development and publication of major cookbooks, children’s books, biographies, and a graphic novels.
