Andy Gilford, partner in the firm’s Los Angeles office, has tried numerous cases in both state and federal courts. He has successfully prosecuted and defended clients in significant litigation matters involving intellectual property, contract, unfair competition, business tort, real estate, corporate control, fraud, defamation and insurance coverage disputes.

Andy has been annually recognized in Southern California Super Lawyers and has been named a “California Super Lawyer” in the 2008 Super Lawyers, Corporate Counsel Edition. He received both his B.A. and J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1986 and 1989, respectively.

Representative Experience

  • Multimillion-dollar jury verdict for a client arising out of a breach of oral agreement to license a software product.
  • Trial of breach of contract and fraud claims brought against home builder clients, resulting in the defeat of the plaintiff’s several-million dollar damage claim.
  • Multimillion-dollar jury verdict, including a punitive damage award, in favor of a client in a law firm partnership dispute.
  • Jury trial involving the alleged breach of agreement to provide television programming, resulting in a nonsuit for the client television station.
  • Trial of contract and fraud claim on behalf of a multinational chemical company resulting in a substantial verdict for the client.
  • Defense verdict in favor of the client in a trial alleging a prescriptive easement over the client’s ranch property.
  • Successful prosecution of a several-month binding arbitration of a dispute between a major utility’s independent power producer subsidiary and an equipment manufacturer, involving hundreds of claims for breach of warranty and product defect.
  • Representation of clients as plaintiffs and defendants in complex business and commercial disputes, including matters involving antitrust violations, business torts, unfair competition, intellectual property claims, and fraud.
  • Defense of a major oil company, battery manufacturer and other clients in lawsuits under CERCLA, RCRA, and California state law for damages arising out of environmental contamination.
  • Substantial experience in working with and deposing experts in various fields, including geologists, hydrogeologists, water chemists, lead, environmental remediation, and fate and transport analysis.
  • Prosecution of insurance coverage disputes on behalf of policyholders, including claims for bad faith, resulting in the payment of millions of dollars in benefits for the defense and indemnity under CGL and D&O policies.
  • Defense of various contract and tort disputes on behalf of energy company clients, including claims involving wind turbine generators, the calculation and payment of royalty streams, the disposition of hazardous waste streams from geothermal power plants, the buyout of power purchase agreements, the use and application of emission reduction credits, and other matters involving claims for indemnification, breach of fiduciary duty and fraud.
  • Representation of clients in appellate matters before the state and federal appellate courts.
