Avis B. Edwards

Avis Edwards is counsel in the Global Finance & Debt Products Group. She focuses her practice primarily on the representation of major financial institutions in mortgage-backed and asset-backed securitization transactions.

Avis received her J.D. in 2000 from Fordham University School of Law, where she was a member of the Fordham Urban Law Journal and a symposium editor of the Fordham Finance, Securities and Tax Law Forum. She received her B.S in management in 1995 from Pepperdine University. Avis is admitted to practice in New York and North Carolina.

Representative Experience

  • Represented major financial institutions, as trustee, in connection with bankruptcy- or insolvency-related issues arising out of the bankruptcy or insolvency of various parties in numerous mortgage-backed securitization transactions.
  • Represented trustees, paying agents and custodians in public and private commercial mortgage-backed securities transactions, the assets of which included commercial, multifamily and manufactured housing community mortgage loans.
  • Represented trustees and master servicers in residential mortgage-backed securities transactions.
  • Represented major investment banks and other financial institutions as issuer’s and underwriter’s counsel with respect to public and private offerings of mortgage-backed and asset-backed securities, with asset types such as commercial mortgage loans, residential mortgage loans and automobile loan receivables.
  • Provided ongoing general corporate, broker-dealer and SEC regulatory advice to clients, including issues involving relevant regulatory filings.
