Bruce Pasfield has developed a national practice in environmental litigation after serving as one of the nation’s top environmental prosecutors at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). In addition to enforcement and litigation defense work, Bruce provides Fortune 500 companies with permit and compliance counseling on environment and energy matters in the United States and Abroad. He is currently a vice chair and newsletter editor for the American Bar Association's Environmental Enforcement and Crimes sub-committee and also serves on the Renewable Energy Resources sub-committee.
Prior to joining Alston & Bird, Mr. Pasfield enjoyed a distinguished 15 year career at DOJ, where as a trial attorney in DOJ’s Environmental Crimes Section, he litigated a number of precedent-setting cases under the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act, and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. As an assistant chief, he oversaw a wide range of environmental litigation including the lead cases for the Department’s Hazardous Materials and Worker Safety Initiatives. In 2005 he received the Attorney General’s Distinguished Service award and has previously received six DOJ special achievement awards and two EPA bronze medals for excellence in litigation.
