He has led the defense of numerous Fortune 500 clients in various types of ERISA class actions, including 401(k)/employer stock, benefit termination, defined benefit calculation and severance matters. In addition, Mr. Hinson has substantial experience and expertise in securities, complex commercial and insurance class action litigation.
Mr. Hinson’s practice is national in scope. He has been recognized as a “national leader” in ERISA litigation by Chambers USA America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, The Legal 500 and is listed in Who’s Who in American Law. Mr. Hinson is the chair-elect of the Employee Benefits Committee of the Tort and Insurance Practice Section and a member of the Joint Committee on Employee Benefits of the American Bar Association. He is a noted author and speaker on various topics related to ERISA and class action litigation, and he is on the editorial board of the Class Action Law Monitor.

Mr. Hinson received his J.D. degree, cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center in 1986, and his B.A., magna cum laude, from Emory University in 1982, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Alabama State Bar (inactive), the Atlanta Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. Mr. Hinson is admitted to practice in all Georgia state courts, the United States Supreme Court, the Eleventh, Third and Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the Northern and Middle Districts of Georgia, the Northern and Southern Districts of Alabama, and the Eastern District of Michigan. He is also active in the community, serving on the Advisory Board of The Salvation Army in Metro-Atlanta, the Board of Directors of The Atlanta Shakespeare Company and the Board of Directors of Seven Stages Theatre.
