Latest Developments in Legislative Reform of Derivatives, Investor Protection and Rating Agencies

Willa Bruckner, David Baum and Evan Drutman of Alston & Bird's New York and Washington, DC offices, presented this teleseminar on three bills recently approved or under consideration by the House Financial Services Committee: The Over-the-Counter Derivatives Markets Act of 2009, The Investor Protection Act of 2009, and The Accountability and Transparency in Rating Agencies Act.  They discussed the following topics.

• How might current derivatives trading practices be affected?
• What changes might there be to the duties owed, disclosures required to be received by and other protections afforded retail clients of investment advisers and broker-dealers providing investment advice?
• For both issuers and investors, how might the debt markets be affected by statutory changes to the role of the rating agencies?
