Ashley Brightwell Quoted in Human Resource Executive Online

Ashley Brightwell was quoted in Human Resource Executive Online article discussing the return of an OSHA ergonomics rule that would require employers to track and report workplace-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).  Though only a record-keeping measure, the new rules could lead to expanding regulatory and enforcement actions.  According to Brightwell, the rules could lead to “future actions by OSHA to regulate MSDs . . . and increase the number of citations being issued against employers.”  She continued:  “So a big fear is that by highlighting MSDs in the workplace, you’re opening the door to a number of general-duty citations.”

In the article, Brightwell advised employers to review their OSHA 300 logs and be proactive in evaluating their workplaces, eliminating any current ergonomic hazards.
