EXPERIENCE

Most of our electronics patent attorneys are involved in a significant amount of patent preparation and prosecution before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.  Many have advanced technical degrees and experience working in relevant industries.  We bring our extensive educational backgrounds and work experience to bear for the benefit of our clients.  Patent appeals, re-examinations, reissues, interferences and other administrative proceedings also constitute a significant part of our work for clients.

In addition, some of our group’s patent attorneys are significantly involved in the Nokia v. Qualcomm litigation, which is among the most significant patent cases in litigation at this time.  Other patent attorneys are involved in defending major corporations in licensing negotiations and patent litigation involving the Katz patent portfolio directed to telephone call centers.  In spite of the hundreds of millions Katz has extracted from licensees, through our extensive knowledge of the telecommunications industry and understanding of the coverage of the Katz portfolio, some of our clients have elected not to enter into expensive settlements and instead have ardently opposed the Katz portfolio.  Whether through negotiation or litigation, we continue to advocate forcefully for our clients to ensure that they receive fair settlements or verdicts.

WHY ALSTON & BIRD?

We partner with our clients by first understanding their business objectives, and then accurately understanding how patent matters affect their businesses, to make our joint efforts a success.  We strive to be an integral and essential part of our client's team and are extraordinarily creative in the way that we work with our clients.
