Jane has served as national coordinating, trial or MDL counsel in a wide variety of cases involving foods and beverage, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, consumer products and chemicals, achieving success in some of the most difficult jurisdictions in the United States. She serves on the national trial team and as a lead science lawyer in thousands of cases in antipsychotic litigation, as national counsel in methadone and pamidronate litigation, and as national counsel for a major cell phone carrier, leading the winning defense in the trial and appellate court. Her work in consumer fraud class action on behalf of the food and beverage industry has resulted in a series of important defense wins. Jane has previously participated on national trial teams or as a coordinating counsel in breast implant, fen-phen, polio vaccine and other childhood vaccines, mold, uranium, silica and asbestos litigation.

Jane's practice is distinguished by her expertise in the area of scientific evidence. Most recently, Jane and her team achieved judgments in an MDL, state court in Delaware and in New Jersey involving the drug Seroquel that resulted in the exclusion of plaintiffs’ specific-causation experts and summary judgment for our client. In the cell phone health effects litigation, Jane's cross-examination of key experts resulted in their exclusion by the MDL judge. The Fourth Circuit affirmed summary judgment for the defense after Jane's oral argument for the cell phone industry. As lead science counsel for a major manufacturer of breast implants in the MDL, Jane worked to establish the first National Science Panel in mass tort litigation. In the fen-phen MDL, Jane's cross-examination led to the exclusion of plaintiffs' experts on phentermine for the industry. Ultimately, Jane tried the only phentermine case ever tried to a directed verdict in Fayette, Mississippi. Jane also led the uranium industry to a victory in dozens of cancer claims in South Texas. Her work on the science in those cases led to a string of seminal Daubert decisions.

Ms. Thorpe is a prolific writer and speaker. Most recently, she co-chaired the ABA Institute for Mass and Class Action Dispute Resolution.
