Jeffrey J. Swart concentrates his practice on complex commercial litigation. He has extensive experience in the litigation of business tort, contract, accounting malpractice, actuarial malpractice, federal regulatory enforcement, and other commercial disputes. He has also represented both plaintiffs and defendants involved in catastrophic personal injury matters.
In addition to his trial work, Mr. Swart has a keen interest in appellate advocacy and has represented clients with appellate matters in a variety of state and federal courts. He served as chief editor of the most recent edition of the Georgia Appellate Practice Handbook (6th Edition, 2007), and he has lectured on developments in Georgia appellate practice. Before joining Alston & Bird, Mr. Swart served for two years as a law clerk to The Honorable Edward E. Carnes of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and the District of Columbia Bar.

Jeff is involved in a variety of pro bono, bar-related, and community-oriented activities. In 2005, he was honored by ACLU with a Volunteer Attorney Award for his pro bono representation of plaintiffs in civil rights litigation. Since 2005, Mr. Swart has served on a pro bono basis as general counsel to AID Atlanta, Inc., the largest AIDS service organization in the Southeast. He serves on the Finance & Audit Committee of the Atlanta Bar Association and is the immediate past president of the Stonewall Bar Association of Georgia. In 2000, Mr. Swart was elected as an alternate delegate to the Democratic National Convention.
Prior to law school, Mr. Swart practiced as a Certified Public Accountant with the firm of Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers). He received his B.B.A., with highest distinction, from the Emory University School of Business in 1989 and his J.D. from the Emory University School of Law in 1995. He was designated as the William H. Agnor Scholar for the 1994-95 academic year and became a member of the Order of the Coif upon graduation. During his final year at Emory Law School, Mr. Swart served as editor-in-chief of the Emory Law Journal.
