John Spangler is co-chair of the firm’s Construction and Government Contracts Group. His practice focuses on representing contractors, owners and design professionals in the negotiation and drafting of design and construction contracts, and in litigating, arbitrating and mediating construction disputes.

Mr. Spangler has over 25 years of experience handling construction disputes and transactions including the creation of joint ventures, the drafting and negotiation of design-build, construction and construction management contracts, design professional agreements, program management agreements and development agreements. Mr. Spangler also represents owners and contractors in project finance transactions. John also defends and prosecutes all types of construction-related claims including delay, interference and acceleration claims, extended overhead claims and claims of defective construction and defective design. He is featured as one of the leading Georgia lawyers for construction in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 2004, and has been recognized by Super Lawyers magazine as well as the International Who’s Who of Construction Lawyers in 2010.

John received his J.D. in 1980 from Washington University School of Law and his A.B. in economics in 1977 from the University of Illinois. He received an Amicus Curiae Award from the Georgia Supreme Court in 1986. John is on the Advisory Board of The Atlanta Day Shelter and is legal counsel for The Atlanta Union Mission.

Mr. Spangler is past chair (1994-95) and founding member of the Atlanta Bar Association's Construction Law Section, a member of the Governing Committee of the American Bar Association’s Forum on the Construction Industry, former Chair of the Forum’s Division Two Steering Committee (Contract Documents) and a member of the State Bar of Georgia (Litigation Section).
