WELCOME TO THE ALSTON plus BIRD LABOR AND EMPLOYMENT BLOG

Welcome to the Alston & Bird Labor and Employment Blog.
Yes, we know there are already one or two other blogs out there that discuss emerging trends in employment law and seek to highlight new laws and legal opinions that impact employees and employers. Some of them are even associated with law firms, believe it or not. But there’s always room for one more. At least one more good one. And by this we mean a law blog that does not just serve as a repository for firm newsletters (though we readily admit that it is possible a firm newsletter or two may find a home here from time to time. But they’ll be good ones. Really.)
Instead, this blog will seek to raise and discuss labor and employment issues – particularly those impacting California (which as you know are often unlike those found anywhere else in the country…or the world for that matter) – as they happen, or even before they happen. Rather than provide summaries of the law, we will endeavor to question and dialogue (yes, used as a verb) L&E issues as they arise. This will include substantive L&E law and policy, as well as litigation strategy and tactics. Eventually, our Blog Tech-Masters will figure out how to build in “comment” capabilities so we can truly hold a dialogue with you, our soon-to-be faithful readers (hopefully, Mom, someone other than just you, not that your'e not the most important.) But for now, the dialogue will be primarily internal. If you want to get in on the discussion (and we encourage you to do so), you’ll need to email me or the author of any post with your comments, and we’ll upload them for you. We are always interested in your thoughts (unless you’re my mother complaining that I don’t call home enough….).
It is possible (actually very probable) that our blog will end up with a slightly pro-employer bent to it. We can’t help it. Sorry. But at least we warned you.
We hope when you exit this blog, you will do so with thoughts and ideas that weren’t there when you arrived. And it is our hope that some of those new thoughts and ideas will be valuable…or at least interesting…or at a minimum not a complete and total waste of time.
