Marilyn Yager is a senior policy advisor in Alston & Bird’s Washington, D.C. office. Ms. Yager is a policy and coalition building professional with noted expertise in health care issues. She has 30 years of senior management, policy and government experience in both the public and private sectors.
In the public sector, Ms. Yager’s experience includes serving the Clinton Administration initially as chief of staff to the White House chief of staff Mack McLarty, and then as the deputy assistant to the president for public liaison on health and budget issues. During her 8 years in Congress, she served as health aide to Massachusetts Senator John Kerry and to former Iowa Congressman Berkley Bedell.
In the field of public policy, Ms. Yager was the executive director of The Renal Leadership Council, a coalition of the large dialysis provider; was the director of health policy at Vanderbilt University Medical Center; and the director of federal relations for the Massachusetts Hospital Association.

Her non-profit experience includes serving as executive director of The Kenneth B. Schwartz Center – a non-profit organization, housed at Massachusetts General Hospital, dedicated to improving the communication between patients and their clinical caregivers.
She was a member of Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign staff in 1992 and Michael Dukakis’ presidential campaign staff in 1988. She served as health outreach advisor to the 2004 Kerry/Edwards presidential campaign.
An Iowa native, Ms. Yager began her professional career as a member of the Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) where she founded a senior citizen skill swap program in the Cascade Mountains of Washington that enabled the low-income rural elderly to meet their home repair needs.
