Pension, Profit-Sharing, Welfare and Other Compensation Plans

David Godofsky presented "Defined Benefit Practitioner Issues" on October 9, 10:45am - 11:45am, during this live course and webcast hosted by the American Law Institute and American Bar Association (ALI-ABA).  This annual advanced course of study examined the most important aspects of pension, profit-sharing, welfare, and other compensation plans, including recent developments in litigation, legislation, and federal regulations, enforcement and guidance.  Private practitioners, other benefits specialists and current and former government speakers provided their insights on the latest issues, and will be available to answer questions throughout the program.  The discussions throughout the course were transactional, dealing with “how to do it” and not offering merely an explanation of the law itself.  The following topics were discussed during the program.

    • 2009 Litigation Update
    • IRS/Treasury priorities for 2009-2010
    • Methods of terminating a defined benefit plan
    • Ethical issues in employee benefits practice
    • The interplay between bankruptcy and employee benefits
    • What should be known about IRAs
