Laura Sierra is a senior associate in the firm’s Litigation & Trial Practice Group. She concentrates her practice on government investigations, internal investigations, white-collar criminal defense and general civil litigation with a special focus on FDA and health care matters.
Laura represents her clients’ interests in both federal and state matters. Her experience has included representations before various federal government agencies, including the Department of Justice, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Food and Drug Administration, the Department of the Treasury and the Department of Health and Human Services.
Ms. Sierra received her J.D. from American University’s Washington College of Law (WCL) in 2008, where she served on the executive board of The American University International Law Review as the human rights academy and humanitarian law book editor, and was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society’s 2007 ABA Appellate Advocacy national semi-finalist team. Through her participation in WCL’s Civil Practice Clinic, Ms. Sierra represented low-income clients before the Superior Court for the District of Columbia and the United States Bankruptcy Court.
Ms. Sierra received her B.A. in economics from St. Mary’s University in 2000 and her M.A. in international studies from Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, in 2002.
- Defended a former governmental official in a civil suit alleging violations of the Civil Service Reform Act and arising out of a U.S. Department of Justice investigation.
- Defended one of the nation's largest sheriff's offices in a Section 14141 racial profiling investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice.
- Drafted an amicus curiae brief for submission to the United States Supreme Court in Salazar v. Buono, a First Amendment case regarding a cross erected by the Veterans of Foreign Wars in the Mojave National Preserve.
- Provide clients with legal counsel regarding disclosures pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
- Provide counsel to health care clients regarding obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Rehabilitation Act.
