Chris Marquardt focuses much of his practice on the litigation of complex disputes. He has considerable experience handling cases that arise when employees leave a company to work for a competitor. Mr. Marquardt also handles cases involving allegations of employment discrimination, wrongful termination, retaliation and breach of employment contract.
Apart from litigation, he counsels clients on compliance with federal and state employment laws, negotiates employment agreements, plans for operational changes such as reductions in force, and participates in collective bargaining and other traditional labor matters. He represents colleges and secondary schools on diverse issues facing educational institutions.
Mr. Marquardt is a member of the Florida Bar and the State Bar of Georgia. He served for two years as judicial law clerk to the Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida in Tallahassee and Gainesville. He has wide-ranging experience litigating disputes in the courts of both Georgia and Florida.
Mr. Marquardt received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University, where he was awarded academic and athletic honors as a member of the men's basketball team. After graduating from Princeton, Mr. Marquardt attended the Duke University School of Law and received his J.D., with honors.
- Outside General Counsel to educational institutions.
- Lead trial counsel in a successful federal court action against the client’s former employee who went to work with a competitor in violation of his non-competition agreement.
- Successfully obtained summary judgment for a national telecommunications client in action brought under the FMLA by a former temporary worker. Judgment was affirmed by the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals after a successful oral argument.
- National labor counsel for a retail client, with responsibility for negotiations and collective bargaining with labor organizations; training and counseling regarding workplace compliance issues; representing the company in administrative matters before the NLRB, EEOC, and other agencies and defense of employment litigation.
