John Crews has represented clients in litigation matters nationally for over 25 years. John represents clients in a variety of industries, including travel and transportation, accounting, computer and information technology, chemical, real estate, and insurance. His expertise extends to securities litigation, antitrust, contracts, accountant liability, employment, intellectual property/trade secrets, and insurance coverage and bad faith.
Throughout his career, John has tried numerous cases to verdict or judgment. He has also appeared before tribunals of the American Arbitration Association and the International Chamber of Commerce. In addition, John has represented individuals, corporations and professional services firms in a number of internal and governmental investigations, including investigations conducted by the United States Securities & Exchange Commission, the office of the New York Attorney General, the Internal Revenue Service and the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy.
John has been recognized by Super Lawyers magazine. He has also been listed as one of the "Best Lawyers in Dallas" by D Magazine.
John graduated, cum laude, from the Pepperdine University School of Law in 1985, where he served as a note & comment editor on the Pepperdine Law Review. He received his bachelor's degree from Whittier College in 1982.
- Successfully defended the subsidiaries of a public beauty supply company in a case alleging that the company president accepted millions of dollars in bribes to facilitate the gray marketing of products of a marquee hair care brand.
- Successfully defended an automotive legend and related companies in series of lawsuits arising out of failed luxury automobile venture by a trademark licensee.
- Successfully defended a chemical company in one of the few toxic tort class actions ever to go to trial.
- Obtained summary judgment for a client in a tortious interference case in which the client's joint venture partner had already suffered a $35 million judgment for breach of contract and fraud by the same plaintiff in arbitration.
- Defended a U.S.-based global professional services and insurance brokerage firm in a securities class action following the highly publicized investigation by the New York Attorney General’s Office into certain practices in the insurance industry.
- Defended a “Big 4” accounting firm in securities litigation arising out of the financial collapse of Safety-Kleen Corporation.
- Represented a U.S. travel technology company in a breach of contract action, successfully obtaining a settlement publicly reported to be $37 million.
- Represented a “Big Four” accounting firm in a criminal tax investigation.
- Defended a major semiconductor and electronics manufacturer in action arising out of failed consumer telephone system development project.
- Defended a U.S. travel technology company in arbitration for a commission allegedly due on a multimillion-dollar sale to Pakistani airline.
- Represented an online travel booking service in a trade secrets action related to the sale of travel insurance online.
- Represented the defendant in an action filed under state securities laws arising out of failed limited partnerships in a bench trial.
- Defended a motor coach manufacturer in an employment litigation jury trial.
- Represented a travel company in an Internet advertising investigation by the New York Attorney General.
- Represented the plaintiff, a real estate investment advisor, in a breach of contract/fraud action arising out of a real estate development loan in a jury trial.
- Defended a "Big Four" accounting firm in an action relating to the sale of an insurance company in a jury trial.
