Jon's practice focuses on commercial litigation, with an emphasis in antitrust litigation and counseling. For the last three years, Jon repeatedly has been named one of the "Best Lawyers in Dallas" by D Magazine and a Texas Super Lawyer by Law & Politics and Texas Monthly.
Jon has been involved in a wide range of complex litigation matters and internal investigations. In addition to numerous antitrust matters, he also has represented companies involved in class actions pending throughout the country, including securities litigation and deceptive and unfair trade practices claims.
Jon served as a judicial clerk to The Honorable Emilio M. Garza, United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He received his J.D., magna cum laude, in 1992 from the University of Michigan Law School where he was elected to the Order of the Coif. Jon served as executive editor of the Michigan Law Review in 1992. He received his B.A. in economics from the University of Northern Iowa in 1990.
- Lead counsel representing a group purchasing organization facing antitrust claims raised by a disgruntled potential supplier that was denied a contract.
- Defended a commercial bakery of allegations that it conspired to fix prices for bread products sold in Texas.
- Represented a large chemical company in its challenge of the alleged monopolistic practices of several multinational corporations in the plastics manufacturing industry.
- Represented a vitamin manufacturer in its defense of class actions asserting claims of price fixing.
- Lead trial counsel defending a grocery store chain against the former CEO’s claims for breach of contract and defamation, resulting in a jury verdict in favor of the client and recovering counterclaim damages of $2.3 million for breach of fiduciary duty.
- Lead trial counsel defending a wireless device manufacturer in breach of contract action, resulting in a judgment for the defendant.
- Defended a residential apartment community as lead counsel, successfully challenging jurisdiction in a lawsuit asserting fraud, negligence and breach of contract claims.
- Served as counsel for the defendant, a major newspaper publisher, in securities fraud class action litigation.
- Served as co-lead counsel for a defendant accounting firm in securities fraud class action litigation.
- Served as co-lead counsel representing a U.S. travel technology company in a breach of contract action; successfully obtained a settlement publicly reported to be $37 million.
- Served as lead counsel for an online travel booking service, and successfully resolved a class action lawsuit asserting claims under California unfair competition and consumer protection statutes.
- Represented the defendant, a health plan organization, in a class action involving claims asserted by 650,000 physicians against several large managed care companies.
- Served as co-lead counsel and successfully represented the defendant, a travel holdings corporation, in an action by a competitor alleging antitrust violations and asserting other state law claims.
- Served as lead trial counsel successfully representing a claims settlement trust in a $30 million contract interpretation proceeding.
- Served as appellate counsel for the defendant, a multinational technology and services conglomerate, in an employment discrimination matter; obtained a 50-percent reduction of the jury verdict.
- Served as lead trial counsel representing the defendant in a $60 million breach of contract adversary proceeding; successfully obtained summary judgment on behalf of the client.
- Represented the plaintiff, a U.S. travel technology company, in successfully obtaining damages of $3 million for a breach of contract.
