Philip Cook moderated the "Update on LILO/SILO Litigation" panel on Friday, September 12, 10:00am-10:30am, which discussed the status of the leveraged leasing litigation and the impact on the financial institutions industry.
Michelle Henkel, in addition to serving as Chair of the Banking and Savings Institutions, moderated the "FIN-48 Workpapers: The Pursuit of Transparency Versus a Claim of Privilege" panel on Friday, September 12, 10:30am-11:30am, which provided an overview of the attorney-client, federal tax practitioner and work product privileges and discussed the Textron and Regions decisions, the IRS’ roundtable discussions regarding transparency and the pending investigation by the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. The panel then focused on corporate practices with respect to FIN-48, the impact of these developments on privilege claims regarding FIN-48 workpapers and other tax-sensitive documents and the release of tax reserves.
The Joint Fall CLE Meeting provided an opportunity for attendees to meet with attorneys and government officials to discuss the latest federal tax policies, initiatives, regulations, legislative forecasts and planning ideas.
