2009 Enrolled Actuaries Meeting, General Session, Retirement Policies Under the New Congress
Seminar
March 29-April 1, 2009
The American Academy of Actuaries and the Conference of Consulting Actuaries hosted the thirty-fourth annual Enrolled Actuaries Meeting, which featured a number of Alston & Bird presenters. David Godofsky moderated and Carolyn Smith participated on the panel "The Great Unknown: Q&NAs" on March 31, 8:45am - 10:30am. Actuaries are often faced with difficult choices in deciding how to handle the many questions that have no clear answers in law, regulation or other guidance. This event tackled some of the "known unknowns" with respect to the new rules and requirements instituted by the Pension Protection Act of 2006, and with respect to some residual issues as well. Experienced actuaries presented their approaches for dealing with some of the more important, commonly asked question on funding and qualification issues. Additionally, Emily Mao presented "Plan Document Maintenance" on March 30, 4:30pm - 5:45pm, which discussed the staggered remedial amendment program, the categories of plan amendments, plan amendment deadlines and special amendment issues for terminating plans.
The meeting featured sessions in several formats covering a wide range of topics and issues relevant to Enrolled Actuaries and other pension professionals. The meeting also included an exhibit of products and services geared to Enrolled Actuaries.
