Alston & Bird client Norit Americas Inc., a manufacturer of activated carbon products used to control pollution, was awarded a $37.9 million award, in addition to a continuing royalty stream, after a lengthy arbitration in a trade secrets dispute. Norit alleged that the defendant, a partner-turned-competitor, hired two former Norit employees and stole proprietary manufacturing techniques and processes.
The victory came after a five-week hearing before a three-member arbitration panel.
“This is a great win for Norit,” said partner Doug Scribner, who along with partner Jim Grant and senior associate Daniel Norris, represented Norit.
The award has been reported in the Daily Report and on Law.com, among other news outlets.
