Bob Riordan was quoted in a New York Times’ “Career Couch” column, in an article called “Getting Up in Years, and Getting the Job.” Riordan discussed the reality of a 55-plus jobseeker in the current market, noting that, “[a]lthough it is illegal to exclude an older candidate based on age," there is still no denying that age is sometimes on the minds of those who make hiring decisions. Riordan pointed out that most hiring managers know not to ask about age, but concerns about energy level, technological ability and retirement still exist. He stressed that older workers can take a proactive approach to overcoming those concerns in their resumes and in interview conversations by, among other things, staying focused on long-term objectives.
