Bob Riordan was quoted in a Wall Street Journal article discussing steps an employee can take to prepare for a maternity or paternity leave. Specifically, Bob discussed some of the legal protections that exist for new mothers or fathers anticipating a return to the workplace after such a leave According to Riordan, “The Family and Medical Leave Act allows many workers 12 weeks of unpaid leave for the care of a newborn child or the adoption or foster care of a child. The law doesn't apply to workers at firms with fewer than 50 employees. . . . But your job isn't recession-proof while you're on leave. If it's among those eliminated in a mass layoff, you aren't entitled to reinstatement.”
