Scott Hilsen is a partner who, for over 16 years, has represented clients in securities and business-related litigation, including shareholder actions and M&A litigation. Mr. Hilsen also is a Certified Fraud Examiner and serves as special counsel to companies in connection with internal and government investigations. He works with the firm’s Special Matters and Investigations Steering Committee, and is the chair of the Forensic Accounting Advisory Board of the School of Accountancy at Georgia Southern University.
Mr. Hilsen is a founder and co-chair of the Securities and Corporate Litigation subsection of the Atlanta Bar Association. He has been chosen by Law and Politics as a 2010 Georgia Super Lawyer Corporate Counsel, as a 2009 Georgia Super Lawyer and as a Rising Star from 2005-2008. Mr. Hilsen is the co-editor of Alston & Bird’s The Fraud Reporter newsletter, and he speaks on topics including securities litigation, investigations, fraud risk management and electronic discovery.

Mr. Hilsen received his J.D., cum laude, in 1993 from Georgia State University, where he was the managing editor of the Georgia State University Law Review. He received an M.B.A. in 1993 from Georgia State University and a B.A. in criminology and law in 1989 from the University of Florida.
Mr. Hilsen also serves as treasurer and board member of Dress For Success Atlanta, a non-profit organization providing work attire and professional counseling to low-income women entering the work force. In 2007, Atlanta Woman Magazine named Mr. Hilsen, “Fan Male of the Year” for his work with Dress For Success Atlanta.

Lead defense counsel in In re First Horizon Pharmaceutical Corp. Sec. Litig.., 464 F.3d 1273 (11th Cir. 2006), a case of first impression in the Eleventh Circuit, which adopted the “sounds in fraud” doctrine for claims alleging fraudulent conduct under the Securities Act of 1933.
