Susan Wilson is co-chair of the firm’s Corporate Transactions & Securities Group. She concentrates her practice on corporate transactions and governance, helping clients structure, draft and negotiate complex business combinations. Through her representation of businesses within the insurance industry, she has developed expertise in the financial and regulatory aspects of insurance transactions, and she has extensive experience in reinsurance transactions, including assumption reinsurance and all forms of indemnity reinsurance, such as coinsurance, modified coinsurance and quota share reinsurance. She is a frequent contributor to the firm’s “What’s the Deal” Mergers & Acquisitions blog.

Susan is listed in The Best Lawyers in America for her corporate law expertise. In addition, she was recently named to the BTI Client Service All-Star Team for the second year in a row, in a survey of corporate counsel of Fortune 1000 and other large corporations, recognizing her for “delivering truly superior client service.”

In 2002-03, Susan had a significant role on the Alston & Bird team that assisted with the Bankruptcy Examiner’s investigation of Enron. In addition to analyzing complex structured finance transactions, she analyzed issues involving fiduciary duties of Enron’s officers and directors and obligations of other parties involved. She served as reporter, with primary drafting responsibility, for significant portions of the Examiner’s report.

Susan received a J.D. degree from University of Georgia, magna cum laude, in 1989, where she was editor-in-chief of the Georgia Law Review, a member of the Order of the Coif and a national Moot Court competitor. She received a B.B.A., summa cum laude, in accounting from Georgia State University in 1986. She served as judicial clerk to The Honorable J.L. Edmondson on the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. She is active in a number of non-profit organizations and has served as a trustee of the Chattahoochee Nature Center and as a member of the Georgia Law School Alumni Association Council.
