Thomas G. Walker Nominated as the Next United States Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina
Thomas G. Walker, a Charlotte partner in Alston & Bird’s Litigation & Trial Practice Group, has been nominated by President Obama to serve as the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina. The nomination has been forwarded to the United States Senate for confirmation.
Walker previously worked as a federal prosecutor and as Special Counsel to North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper. As an Assistant United States Attorney in the Western District of North Carolina, Thomas prosecuted numerous cases in federal court involving bank fraud, money laundering, capital crimes and other violations of federal law. He also served as a member of Attorney General Janet Reno’s Campaign Finance Task Force. In his capacity as Special Counsel, Thomas provided legal advice to the North Carolina Attorney General concerning the development of major policy initiatives. He was listed in The Best Lawyers in America in 2008 and 2009 for white-collar criminal defense.
Senator Kay Hagan called Walker “extremely qualified and fair-minded.” Mark Calloway, Walker's law partner in the Charlotte office, said that "Walker is well respected by federal, state and local law enforcement, is a great leader and will make an excellent United States Attorney."
"I am honored that President Obama has nominated me," Walker told the press late Monday night.
