Tim Pakenham is a transactional lawyer with almost 30 years of experience. The primary areas of Tim’s practice concern the lodging industry, project development, and real estate finance of all types, including various lease financing structures and originations and restructurings of loans secured by real property. Tim represents one of the world’s largest hotel companies in its transactional needs, including management agreements and joint ventures, the developer of the world’s largest aquarium, The Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, and various financial institutions. He also regularly represents borrowers and corporate and institutional owners of real estate. He is a Fellow of The American College of Real Estate Lawyers. Tim is also a former leader of Alston & Bird’s Real Estate Finance and Investment Group and a two-term member of the firm’s executive management committee, chairing that committee in 2005. Tim has held a variety of professional and civic leadership positions.

  • Counsel to one of the world's largest lodging companies in structuring tax deferred dispositions, off-balance sheet transactions and long-term management arrangements.
  • Counsel to a variety of owners in structuring development and ownership of real estate through synthetic lease financing vehicles.
  • Counsel to the benefactor and developer of the world's largest and most technologically advanced aquarium, located in downtown Atlanta.
