Beverlee Silva presented,"Scientific Issues Associated with Class Certification," during this conference sponsored by the American Bar Association (ABA). Certification of a class of plaintiffs is a make-or-break moment in any case. Environmental class actions present unique scientific and data-gathering challenges at the class certification stage. Lawyers must understand the scientific and statistical approaches used to evaluate commonality, homogeneity and predictability of exposure in order to win or successfully oppose class certification.  Beverlee's presentation covered the science behind class certification, including the methodologies available and how and when to use them.
