Mary Benton, Maryann Luongo and Tim Peaden were featured presenters at this conference sponsored by the American Bar Association/Institute for Professionals in Taxation.
Mary was a panelist during the session "Use of Constitutional Provisions to Challenge Property Tax Assessments." The session addressed the Commerce Clause, the Due Process Clause, Equal Protection as well as state issues such as uniformity.
Maryann was a featured panelist during the session "Finders Keepers?: Like it or Not, Unclaimed Property Issues are Here to Stay." This panel discussed recent developments and multistate trends involving unclaimed property, including recent legislation and litigation, reduced dormancy periods and escheat of rebates and other rewards programs.
Tim was a panelist during the session "Arbitration/Mediation/ADR." This panel defined the various types of alternative resolutions, provided the advantages and disadvantages of each, outlined what parties may attempt to accomplish with each type and provided a proceeding with a discussion following of what was done and why. The following recommendations were discussed during the session:
- Identify the various types of alternate dispute resolutions.
- Understand the strengths and weaknesses of the various options for ADR.
- Discern effective methods of presentation for each type of ADR.
