John Hickman was a featured speaker during the session "Learn Session 201 – Private Exchanges Compliance 101" at this conference hosted by the Institute for HealthCare Consumerism (IHCC).  The healthcare landscape has grown monumentally complex in the past several years, and it’s about to get worse. This session gave consultants and employers large and small an overview of various “private exchange” and defined contribution funding options and how the Affordable Care Act affects them. In this regard, what exactly is a private exchange, and why do I (and my employees) want one?

The following topics were discussed during the session:

    • Defined contribution approaches for health care and how the ACA affects them
    • Impact of ACA limitations on health reimbursement arrangements (HRAs) on private exchange arrangements
    • Differences between private exchanges that utilize group coverage (and a slice approach) and individual coverage options
