Glenn Thomson was a featured speaker during the session "Governmental incentives and the rise of foreign manufacturing the US and elsewhere" at this conference. In the last five or so years there has been an increase in the number of non-US companies setting up manufacturing and distribution facilities. This trend is expected to increase and continue. This panel of experts discussed and explored the reasons behind the resurgence of foreign manufacturing in the US, including the recent and rapid expansion of auto-manufacturing in the south eastern US. Specific case studies were presented to provide an outline of what factors were and are important in selecting an area to locate in and how to elicit competitive offers of incentive packages from multiple jurisdictions.
