Roadmap to the GDPR Educational Series: Brexit Analysis, Outsourcing & Processors

Event Detail

Please join us for the third program in our series of educational sessions for our clients and friends on the General Data Protection Regulation. The GDPR Roadmap series is a combination of webinar and in-person events designed to provide you with the critical information you need to assess and address the myriad issues raised by the passage and implementation of the GDPR. The series is chaired by Peter Swire, senior counsel. Other speakers from the firm and community will join us throughout the series.

Our third webinar session will cover:

Brexit
Peter will provide brief thoughts and guidance on the recent Brexit vote in the UK and its potential impact as companies implement the GDPR.

Planning to Implement the GDPR: Outsourcing & Processors
For controllers of personal information, the GDPR will require substantial upgrades to contractual arrangements with processors as well as due diligence in the selection of processors and continuing oversight of processing activities. For processors, the GDPR will similarly require greater attention to contract terms and will impose new, express compliance requirements. Most significantly, controllers and processors will become jointly responsible for information security and exposed to fines and civil damages for violations, with penalties that can reach 4 percent of a firm’s global revenue. This webinar will explain the changes in law and discuss how organizations should adjust their outsourcing and contractual programs to respond to the new requirements.

SPEAKERS:
Peter Swire, Senior Counsel, Alston & Bird LLP,  Huang Professor of Law and Ethics at the Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business
Karen Sanzaro, Counsel, Technology & Privacy Group, Alston & Bird LLP
