Nicki Carlsen, Helen Christakos, Jeffrey Dintzer, James Evans, Lisa Garcia, Jesse Jauregui, Debbie Yoon Jones, Yuri Mikulka, Scott Sasser, Andrea Warren, and Jamila Williams will be speaking at the 2020 California CLE Seminar co-sponsored by ACC SoCal and Alston & Bird.

James Evans and Jesse Jauregui will present “Labor & Employment 2020: A Vision of What Is to Come in the New Year.” California is viewed as one of the most employee-friendly states in the country, but its maze of state and local employment laws can leave companies with California-based operations and employees at risk. This presentation will review current trends in wage-and-hour litigation and cover a number of new employment laws – including the much-discussed AB 5 regulation – and their implications for California employers.

Helen Christakos will present “CCPA Has Arrived – Are You Ready?” Ready or not, the California Consumer Privacy Act is here, and with it comes increased regulatory scrutiny, forcing businesses to demonstrate implementation of reasonable security requirements. This program will provide a brief overview of the law that went into effect January 1, 2020, as well as the California attorney general’s proposed implementation regulations.

Yuri Mikulka will present “Recent Developments in IP Law.” Intellectual property assets are among a company’s most important and can be the most challenging to protect. This presentation will discuss the latest developments in IP law and issues that in-house counsel should be aware of in the coming year.

Nicki Carlsen, Jeffrey Dintzer, and Andrea Warren will present “California Environmental & Land Development Update.” As a leader in environmental policy, California is often the first state to address environmental concerns by enacting strict legislation and regulations. This presentation will offer insight into some of the key conversations, including issues involving air quality, housing and land development, and PFAS – the widely discussed emerging contaminant that has been the center of attention at local, state, and federal levels.

Lisa Garcia, Debbie Yoon Jones, Scott Sasser, and Jamila Williams will present “The ‘Ethics’ Game: Outside Counsel Edition.” In the fast pace of an in-house legal department, the vast variety of daily challenges can be difficult to handle. This interactive program will cover a number of ethical scenarios in-house counsel face daily. Based on the classic gameshow The Dating Game, you will hear from three “contestants” who will provide clarity on how to best respond in these often-challenging situations.
