Alston & Bird LLP Names David L. Mathus Partner in Entertainment and New Media Group in New York Office

Recognizing the growing and increasingly complex legal and business issues facing the entertainment and media industries, Alston & Bird LLP has announced the appointment of David L. Mathus as partner in the Entertainment and New Media Group in the New York office.

Commenting on the appointment, Aydin S. Caginalp, chair of Alston & Bird’s Entertainment and New Media Group and partner-in-charge of the firm’s New York office, stated, “With entertainment and media expanding across every platform from WAP to the Internet, CD-Rom, satellite and beyond, new business and regulatory issues continue to proliferate. His expertise in business transactions, finance, e-business and IP gives him the kind of unparalleled insight into the complexities of the industry required in the current dynamic environment.”

David L. Mathus’ practice encompasses general corporate finance and business law, commercial law, complex licensing and technology transactions, and private equity transactions. He represents leading and domestic international retailers, technology companies, private equity investors and media companies.

Prior to joining Alston & Bird, Mr. Mathus served as special counsel to the General Counsel of Kmart Corporation upon its emergence from bankruptcy. Previously, he was partner and co-head of Dorsey & Whitney’s Internet & E-commerce group. In the early 1990’s,
Mr. Mathus was founder and president of American Events Corporation, a national information service. Prior to that, he practiced corporate law at Chadbourne & Park in
New York.

David Mathus is a member of the Technology Law Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, and the New Information Technologies section committee of the American Bar Association.
