Karol Mason to Split Time between Atlanta, Raleigh and Washington, D.C. in Firm’s Real Estate Finance Practice
Alston & Bird LLP today announced that partner Karol Mason has returned to the firm as a member of its Real Estate Finance & Capital Markets Group. Mason will primarily work out of Atlanta, but will also be based in Raleigh and Washington, D.C., where she has spent the last three years serving as a U.S. Deputy Associate Attorney General under the Obama administration. She concentrates her practice in the area of public and project finance, as well as providing guidance in the area of government investigations.
Prior to her work with the federal government, Mason practiced at Alston & Bird for 26 years and is a former chair of the firm’s Partners Committee.
“It has always been our hope that Karol would return to the firm after completing her public service,” said Alston & Bird Managing Partner Richard Hays, “and we are proud and excited to have her back among our ranks. Karol Mason concentrates her practice in the area of public and project finance, maintaining a nationally recognized practice specialty in financings of student housing and academic facilities at public and private colleges and universities, as well as developing significant expertise in public and nonprofit hospital financings. She also provides guidance in the area of government investigations.
Ms. Mason received her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and her A.B. from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was a member of the board of trustees at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2001-2009, serving as vice-chair, as chair of the Audit and Finance Committee and as a member of the Endowment and Investment Committees.
