Ryan Koppelman was quoted in a Daily Journal article discussing San Jose Judge Lucy H. Koh’s decision to deny Apple Inc.’s bid for treble damages in its injunction against Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.
“I’m sure Samsung would have liked to have won on actually knocking out some of those patents…[Judge Koh] at least gave credence to those arguments, saying they were reasonable, if not winning,” Koppelman said.
Koppelman noted, “Apple’s patents survived the scrutiny from both the federal jury and the judge, which suggests that Samsung may have to pay royalties on various products going forward.”
“She split the baby a little bit,” he concluded.
