Aaron Block, senior associate in the firm’s Products Liability and Toxic Torts Groups, was quoted in a Law360 article discussing lingering questions about fugitive methane emissions arising from natural gas extraction and transmission and how that could threaten preferred status for natural gas and steer federal and state officials toward additional regulation to mitigate potential climate change impacts.
Block said he expects additional regulation to address methane leakage if the developing science warrants, but said the industry is nimble enough to adjust easily.
“I think you will definitely see some degree of regulation, but I don't think that transmission is going to be the Achilles heel of natural gas development,” he said.
“To the extent that there is good, reproducible data, I think the industry is going to figure out how to make it work long before regulations are enacted.”
