The Securities and Exchange Commission recently announced new rules, known as Regulation System Compliance and Integrity, requiring major market centers, such as dark pools and stock exchanges, to enhance their cybersecurity and backup systems, as well as their reporting to the SEC during market disruptions.
“There are so many rules that the commission is considering, especially in the area of private equity market structure. The concern I have is more on the collective effect of so many rules,” said Laura Pruitt, partner in Alston & Bird’s Financial Services & Products Group. “I think you would need to look at everything as a whole before applying yet another set of rules on every broker.”
