Steve Hemminger Notes Benefits of Local USPTO Office in Silicon Valley Business Journal

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is preparing to open a branch in Silicon Valley and beginning to recruit new hires.

Alston & Bird partner Steve Hemminger, a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice, noted that the new office will have several practical benefits for IP lawyers in the region, including cost savings from reduced travel, speedier resolution of patent disputes and a pool of patent office employees steeped in the tech culture.

He also said that the demand for twin-threat candidates – those with computer science as well as law degrees – is sky high.
