National Law Journal Ranks Alston & Bird Case among “Big Money Wins of 2015”

Alston & Bird was recognized by The National Law Journal in its “Big Money Wins of 2015” for its victory in a premises liability case brought on behalf of four North Carolina residents who were severely injured in the collapse of a deck at an apartment complex in Montgomery, AL. The case earned the No. 33 spot among the country’s top 50 verdicts of 2015.

Litigation partners Gregg McDougal and Michael Kaeding and associate Jason Burton secured a $24.75 million verdict in favor of their clients. The jury found for the plaintiffs on the issue of wantonness and returned an award for both compensatory and punitive damages.

The National Law Journal compiles the rankings through its affiliate, VerdictSearch, the nation’s leading publisher of verdict and settlement news and research. Verdicts are ranked by gross award calculated by the jury.
