Heather Ripley Named University of Georgia “40 Under 40” Honoree

Heather Ripley, senior associate in Alston & Bird’s Federal & International Tax Group, has been named to the University of Georgia (UGA) Alumni Association’s “40 Under 40” class of 2016.

A dual UGA graduate who received both her B.B.A. and M.Acc. in 2006, Ripley counsels domestic and international business entities and individuals on income tax treaties and law, including the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act and Foreign Investment in Real Property Tax Act of 1980, in addition to other tax issues relating to U.S. inbound investment, anti-deferral regimes for outbound investment and tax-efficient transactions and structures.

While at UGA, Ripley served as a Foundation Fellow and club leader for University Judiciary, a student-run organization that seeks to foster respect within the university community through adherence to the school’s code of conduct. She continues to maintain strong ties with UGA by working closely with the alumni network at UGA’s Terry College of Business.

“UGA prides itself on producing well-rounded alumni, so that's why it is particularly inspiring to see Heather's dedication and success in areas outside of her profession. In addition to a demanding legal career, she devotes considerable time to the arts – recently winning a national competition and having her art displayed at the White House,” said Mai-Lise Nguyen, fellow UGA graduate.

Now in its sixth year, the UGA 40 Under 40 program honors successful alumni who are 40 years old or younger and who have made a significant impact in business, leadership, community, educational and/or philanthropic endeavors, in addition to having demonstrated dedication to the University of Georgia and its mission of teaching, research and service. This year the UGA Alumni Association received nearly 400 nominations for the award.
