Mary Benton, partner in Alston & Bird’s State & Local Tax Practice, has been honored by the Atlanta Bar Association with its 2016 Pro Bono Award.
Benton was selected for her significant contributions to the community, as well as her dedication to public service. In particular, she was recognized for her 20 years of commitment and service to the Truancy Intervention Project, an organization that provides resources and assistance to children to decrease chronic school absenteeism and prevent them from entering the juvenile court system.
Benton also serves as Alston & Bird’s national pro bono partner and leads all pro bono and community service efforts firmwide. In 2015, more than 80 percent of the firm’s attorneys dedicated nearly 50,000 hours to pro bono activities.
