Alston & Bird continues to expand its California presence with the addition of Steven Selna as products liability and commercial litigation partner in San Francisco. Selna joins from Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP, where he was regional partner in charge of the firm’s San Francisco office and vice chair of the products liability and mass tort group.
“Steve is a strategic thinker and highly skilled lawyer who consistently offers clients creative and end-game solutions,” said Kristy Brown, Alston & Bird partner and co-leader of the firm’s Litigation & Trial Practice Group. “He is a top name in products liability and mass torts whose addition exemplifies the exceptional talent we seek for our clients as we continue to add to our litigation strengths both in California and nationally.”
Selna focuses his practice on pharmaceutical and medical device litigation, consumer class actions, and complex commercial litigation. He also has significant experience defending actions brought by state attorneys general alleging false advertising, violation of state unfair trade practice act statutes, and consumer fraud. He has particular experience in U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulatory matters, as well as advising clients on global compliance issues.
Active in the legal community, Selna is a member of several professional organizations, including the International Association of Defense Counsel, Defense Research Institute, and California Minority Counsel Program.
“Steve brings a distinguished reputation for successfully leading clients through complex products liability litigation, often involving sophisticated procedural, regulatory, and technical issues,” said Alston & Bird partner Teresa Bonder, co-chair of the firm’s Antitrust Team and partner in charge of the San Francisco office. “His arrival adds yet another plank to our litigation platform to meet the growing needs of our clients not only in the products liability space, but also insurance and financial services, antitrust counseling and litigation, and environmental regulatory and compliance.”
Selna is the latest addition to Alston & Bird’s West Coast litigation practice. In March 2017, the firm extended its California presence by opening an office in San Francisco and expanding in Los Angeles with six new litigation partners and counsel, including partners Bo Phillips and Michael Agoglia, who The American Lawyer named among the top 25 laterals of 2017. Since then, the firm has added construction and government contracts partner John Hanover, environmental partner Jeffrey Dintzer and counsel Matthew Wickersham, and class action partners Jeffrey Rosenfeld and Grant Alexander and counsel Rachel Lowe – all in Los Angeles.
