In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, ONC issued an Interim Final Rule, which provides actors with additional regulatory flexibility by extending the timeline to comply with the Information Blocking Rule to April 5, 2021. In addition, the timeline to comply with certain ONC Health IT Certification Program standards was also pushed back to December 31, 2022. Importantly, OIG has yet to issue its final rule on the specific civil monetary penalties for blocking information in violation of the rule.
