Peter Eckrich focuses his practice on health care legislative matters and provides detailed policy analysis to help clients achieve their goals. Peter has experience navigating the legislative process and executing legislative strategies on a broad range of issues. Throughout his time on Capitol Hill, he gained experience in Medicare, private insurance, veterans’ affairs issues, appropriations, budget, and regulatory actions. Peter spent five years on Capitol Hill working in both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. Peter quickly understands client issues, develops a federal legislative strategy, and implements a plan to advance clients’ long-term and short-term priorities.
He also regularly works on state issues related to Medicaid, private insurance, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. Immediately before joining Alston & Bird, Peter was the legislative director for the Health & Human Services Committee of the National Governors Association. His knowledge of Medicaid issues and insight into governors’ offices help clients understand and solve complicated state-specific issues. Peter also has experience working with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and other federal agencies to resolve state and federal client issues. Peter graduated from St. John’s University with a B.A. in history and earned his J.D. from the George Washington University Law School.
