P. Kai Knight

• Advised an NBA franchise on various state biometric law requirements for the potential development of new biometric-based sports stadium.
• Counseled numerous clients from a wide range of industries through state and federal regulatory inquiries regarding privacy compliance leading to favorable outcomes.
• Assisted clients through various privacy incidents, data breaches, and ransomware attacks, managing incidents from inception through remediation and notifications, and in some cases, through subsequent litigation and regulatory inquiries.

Kai Knight is a senior associate in Alston & Bird's Litigation & Trial Practice Group. He focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation, with an emphasis on cybersecurity and white-collar litigation. Kai works with clients across various matters, including breach responses involving ransomware and requests from government agencies. He has partnered with in-house legal teams on U.S. Department of Justice and Security and Exchange interviews and presentations. Kai was also a judicial law clerk for the Hon. William S. Greenberg, of the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.

Before joining the firm, Kai was a member of the U.S. Army as an interrogation detention squad leader and tactical human intelligence assistant team leader. During his time as a soldier, and later working as government contractor, Kai led intelligence and counter-terrorism operations in Iraq, conducted strategic interrogations in Guantanamo Bay, and performed in intelligence analysis in Afghanistan.

Kai maintains a robust pro bono practice that has successfully assisted multiple clients in DC housing conditions cases.

Kai earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. While there, he served on the Black Law Students Association and Military Law Society. He also served as a legal intern for Senator John McCain and then-Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema. He earned his B.I.S., summa cum laude, from Arizona State University.
