Yung Shin Van Der Sype is an associate with Alston & Bird’s Privacy, Cyber & Data Strategy Group. She focuses her practice on IT law and HR-related matters, including privacy and data protection, IT contracts, and corporate security. Yung Shin has advised national and international clients in multiple industry sectors, ranging from health care to social media. She provides clients with a variety of GDPR services, including training, reporting data breaches, and handling data subject requests. She has also negotiated data protection agreements, information notices, consent forms, IT security policies, and various IT contracts on cloud computing.
Before entering private practice, Yung Shin worked as a doctoral researcher, focusing on how Belgian and European privacy and data protection laws relate to the privacy of employees in the workplace. As an affiliated researcher fellow of the Centre for IT & IP Law at the University of Leuven, she contributes to books and articles about privacy and data protection law and corporate safety. Yung Shin is also a member of the editorial committee of the law journal Privacy & Informatie and the law journal Sociaalrechtelijke Kronieken (Social Law Chronicles), and she is a board member of the Vereniging Sociaal Recht (Social Law Association).
