Michael Young is counsel on Alston & Bird's Privacy, Cyber & Data Strategy Team. Michael focuses his practice on data privacy advising and technology transactions. He supports projects involving complex technologies and sensitive, confidential or personal data, including working with legal and business teams to create legal architecture related to the development of new products or services, such as processes, notices, contracts, compliance guidelines and diligence. He also advises on data management, including in highly regulated contexts, technology contracting and procurement, and drafting internal and external privacy policies and notices under Gramm Leach Bliley, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the California Consumer Privacy Act, and other laws and regulations.
Michael regularly helps global organizations navigate issues such as international data transfers, information security regulations, cloud services deployments, and complex privacy and information security compliance in relation to financial, consumer privacy, children’s privacy, and other laws.The Best Lawyers in America© recognized Michael in its “Ones to Watch” list in the area of Technology Law for 2021.
Michael received his J.D., magna cum laude, from the Ohio State University (Order of the Coif) and his LL.M. in legal theory from New York University. He holds a B.A., magna cum laude, in philosophy, with a minor in computer science from the College of Wooster. Michael is CIPP/US and CIPP/EU.
