Lateral Testimonials

As a lateral associate, I was attracted to Alston & Bird for many reasons, but namely the firm culture and opportunities for mentorship.  From my first interviews, I was impressed by how many vibrant and smart women comprise the Los Angeles office, and how the attorneys at the firm know each other both at and outside of work.  People at the firm freely express themselves, and their personalities, and know their colleagues in a meaningful way.  The formal mentorship program also appealed to me as a mid-level associate.  I have experienced some incredibly impactful informal mentoring due to the strength of the interpersonal relationships within the firm.  Additionally, as I continue to gain litigation experience, I was drawn to Alston & Bird for the opportunity to work on complex litigation matters for a wide-range of industry groups.

For a career public servant, the decision to leave government to move to private practice can feel like a decision to move away from your community — leaving everything and everyone you know behind.  For me, that made the decision of where I would spend the second half of my career one of the most important decisions I would ever make.  I am glad I chose Alston & Bird.

While all law firms I met with talked about how well they integrated lateral partners, only Alston & Bird showed me how well they did it.  Pairs of former government officials and life-long members of the firm showed me not just that they worked together, but that they understood how the partnership they had formed made both more successful than they would be on their own.

My experience since joining the firm is that Alston & Bird does not leave anyone to have to go it alone.  The first matters I worked on were led by colleagues in my practice group who asked me to assist.  My most significant matters started with calls from partners outside of the Environmental group who I had not yet met, but whose clients needed an environmental lawyer.  Even when it came to bringing in my first new client, I did it with the support of our Business Development team and my practice group co-chairs.
